Hello blog readers! It’s not often I get to write blog posts, but Annie’s been really busy working on updating our portfolio website (which you should go check out as soon as you’re done reading this post!) so I get to write this post. 2009 was both a busy and a great year for us. Our clients were (and continue to be) absolutely awesome. Our weddings took us from Cincinnati all the way to California, and we’re just as excited about 2010. Before we close the books on 2009, I wanted to recap some of my favorite photos from our 2009 weddings.

#20 :: Sisters

This image is very simple, and that’s what I love about it. It’s just two sisters sharing a quiet moment before the wedding kicked into high gear. Kelly and her sisters were obviously very close, and this photos shows that closeness.

#19 :: Home

Kristina and Jeff deserve a lot of credit for going with the flow on their wedding day. They planned to do a first look by the lake behind their new house, but that idea got shelved due to rain. In the end, though, what better place to do a first look than in the living room of the new house they built to share?

#18 :: Cuffed

We drove into the depths of Indiana for Jamie and Andy’s wedding, and we couldn’t have had much more fun. This photo is representative of how much fun their entire wedding party had. Andy came out expecting to remove Jamie’s garter, but Andy’s brother/best man had something else in store. He thought it would be more fun to let Andy remove the garter with his mouth.

#17 :: Family

We saw scenes like this at a few of our weddings this year, and we tried to capture it each time because it’s just such a cool idea. One of Tejal’s bridesmaids had recently had a baby, and she and her husband juggled taking care of the baby all day. Having two little kids, I understand how stressful that is. It was great to see that they got to relax and spend a little time together as a family before the end of the day.

#16 :: Freezing

We headed out to California excited about the whole trip. We were especially excited about shooting Julia and Chris’ day after session on the beach. We weren’t necessarily expecting the water to be freezing. We still had a great time, and I just love this photo. When we got there Chris wished us luck trying to get good photos of him, but this photo shows just how crazy he is (about it being hard to get good photos of him). Chris and Julia were a ton of fun and very easy to photograph, and we can’t wait until we can get back to California for another wedding.

#15 :: Details

There are so many little details about weddings that often go unnoticed by most of the guests. We saw some amazing bouquets this year, and this is one of my favorite shots. I just love the vibrancy of the flowers in this photo.
15

#14 :: Homily

Julia and Jeff went to grad school together at Xavier and then ended up getting married there this fall. They were one of our most relaxed couples, and I love how this photo shows them just soaking in and enjoying their homily.
14

#13 :: Pride

When we met Tejal’s dad the night before her wedding, we knew he was going to be a lot of fun to work with. He was just so excited and so proud. I love how this photos shows that.
13

#12 :: Blue

Angie knows how to rock a wedding reception–it’s all about comfort and having fun. Sure she had her “normal” shoes for the ceremony, but as soon as that was over it was time for the comfy but stylish All Stars. It’s her day, so why shouldn’t she rock out some blue shoes?
12

#11 :: Anticipation

This picture makes me think back to the last few minutes before my wedding. Those last five minutes feel like hours, as I’m sure Rachel can attest, but then once they’ve over the rest of the day just flies by.
11

#10 :: Timeless

What’s not to love about this photo. Somebody put Julia’s veil on her grandmother and brought her out onto the dance floor to join the party. I just love her expression in this photo.
10

#9 :: Church

There’s just nothing quite like big churches. There’s just something very powerful about the columns, the arches, and the art. It gives the whole wedding a sense of grandeur, and we just love photographing churches like this one.
09

#8 :: Lost

The first dance is a fun moment at every wedding, but this shot of Angie and Tom is one of my very favorite from the whole year. They’re just lost in each other and the moment, and that’s what the first dance is all about.
08

#7 :: Unscripted

Annie captured Kelly and Evan’s recessional from the balcony of the church and captured this shot as she came down. Kelly and Evan retreated to the stairwell for a brief moment together after the ceremony and Annie was in perfect position to capture it. I love this image because it’s totally unscripted. We had no idea Kelly and Evan were headed to the stairway, but we’re glad Annie was able to document the moment.
07

#6 :: Backlit

I know I already included a first dance photo, but both Annie and I just love this photo too much to leave it out. I love everything about it: the expressions, the lighting, even the dust particles in the air.
06

#5 :: Mendhi

Tejal and Chris’ was the first Hindu wedding we’ve been lucky enough to shoot, and we absolutely loved getting to experience and learn about a new culture. One of the really cool things about it is the way Chris’ name was worked into Tejal’s Mendhi.
05

#4 :: Close

It doesn’t necessarily look like it, but this is a totally non-posed photo. We got to spend quite a bit of time photographing Katie and Chris after their reception all around Lexington. We were in Triangle Park and Chris just leaned in to Katie and I was lucky enough to capture this shot. For anybody who knows them, this photo is just so Katie and Chris.
04

#3 :: Toasting

I love this photo even without the story, but the story makes it that much better. Jeff’s brother was giving a toast, and he was “reading” off his note cards. He started talking about Jeff using words like “driven”, “successful”, “smart”, “kind”, and “caring”. He stopped, went over to Jeff, and said, “Hey… I got through most of it, but I can’t read what you wrote here… what did you write?” Of course Jeff responded with “sexy”, and the guests absolutely loved it.
03

#2 :: Overlook

During Chris and Julia’s day after session, they paused to look out over the Pacific Ocean while we changed lenses. Before we told them we were ready to continue, Annie snapped this shot of Julia and Chris. Again, totally not posed. Just a couple in love sharing a moment. What makes it even funnier is that Julia’s mom was standing just out of the frame.
02

#1 :: Pae-baek

There were lots of good candidates, but this is my favorite photo of the year. I love everything about it. Chris and his mom are obviously the focus, but I love Julia’s expression too. This was our first Pae-baek ceremony, and it’s just such a cool tradition. Julia and Chris’ Pae-baek ceremony was the perfect way to blend their families, and this photo captures the joy of that day perfectly.
