It was sometime during Zak and Sara that I looked over at Toby. It was maybe the second song of the evening when it hit me… This was the first “date” we’d had since Emma was born. As I listened to everyone sing “La da da da, la da da, la da da”, listened to Ben Folds rock it out on the piano, listened to the Louisville Orchestra amplify the amazingness… I saw the guy I dated when I was 15. I saw the guy I married. As crazy as it sounds, it was almost like seeing the essence of Toby. And as I sat there, I fell in love with him all over again.
We’ve always shared a deep love for music. When we were in college, Toby wrote me a love letter with song lyrics interspersed throughout including one by Ben Folds… The moment I read the letter, The Luckiest became one of my all time favorites.
Every time I hear it, I’m 20 again. I’m standing on the third floor of Toby’s parents’ house realizing that he’s the one for me. Every time I hear it, I’m walking down the aisle in my wedding dress – minutes away from marrying the man of my dreams.
Saturday was no different. Sitting there listening to those same words pouring from the stage was just like reading that letter again, hearing it play while we slow danced, hearing it play at our wedding…
Since then, things have changed. Kids, work, and life have made things super busy. We wouldn’t trade it for the world, but it’s nice to take a break and just be us. = )
Toby :: You’re asleep on the couch right now, waiting for me to finish my late night blogging… I love you. Thanks for being so amazing. I really am the luckiest.
Thanks to Ben Folds and the Louisville Orchestra for reminding me.
Tom and Angie :: Thanks so much for the tickets. The concert was amazing and we had a fabulous time!!!
